GRADUATE REVIEW

OPPORTUNITIES

Graduate reviewers (i.e. graduate students, postdocs, postbac students) bring their experience and insight to our growing undergraduate science publication. In this role, you can expect to work closely with the Scientific Division heads to ensure the accuracy of our articles. Your role will be to review one ~1200-word scientific article over a two-week period. You will be listed as the article’s graduate reviewer, unless you choose to be anonymous. Additionally, this semester, we are introducing a new type of article - the Feature Column! Feature columns are short, high-impact articles that accent the longer articles in each Grey Matters issue. Graduate reviewers participating in a feature columns will be responsible for reviewing a 500-750 words article over a one-week period.

After you fill out the Graduate Review Interest Form, or Graduate Feature Column Interest Form, you will be added to our pool of graduate reviewers. At the beginning of the semester, we will match graduate reviewers with articles based on how well the article topic aligns with the reviewer’s interest and experience. Graduate reviewers will then be invited to join an Introductory Zoom Meeting to get to know the undergraduates working on the article (“article group”). You will also be shared onto the Google Drive folder with the working article draft, though your Review is much later in the editing process.

If you opt to be an anonymous graduate reviewer, your name will not be published in the issue or anywhere else on our website. Also, your editing process will look slightly different (you will be using Microsoft Word, instead of Google Docs) and your information will not be shared with your article group.
