ISSUE 6: Fall 2023

 Editor’s Note

December 18, 2023

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the sixth issue of Grey Matters Journal TU. This issue is an extraordinary demonstration of the hard work and effort capable of members of the Temple community. In it, you will find a variety of articles and accompanying artwork that is the result of the great talent of our contributors.

As I took on the role of Editor-in-Chief, I could not have been prepared for the sheer collaboration and capability exhibited by our members. Truly, I am beyond proud of all our contributors and the time they have given towards furthering the Grey Matters mission. Together they have produced nine articles spanning topics from social media addiction to epigenetics to neuropathy.

As you browse through the issue, I hope your curiosity is satiated. You may wonder about the abilities and uses of neurotechnology, in which case, we recommend you read Cognitive Enhancement in the 21st Century: Is Black Mirror Becoming a Reality?. Alzheimer’s disease may be familiar to you already, but an alternative to modern medicine is explored in Turmeric for Alzheimer’s: Golden Spice or Cure?. If you would like to know more about the brain’s ability to rewire its neural connections, read about two instances where neuroplasticity takes place in When the Brain Has a Baby and The Neuroplasticity of the Brain After a Cochlear Implant.

Central to Grey Matters is the mission of making neuroscience accessible to all. I believe these articles do just that, and perhaps their thoughtfulness will inspire your own pursuit of knowledge about the brain.

Enjoy the following articles and artwork. From all of us at Grey Matters TU, thank you for your support.

Kind regards,

Madison
