ISSUE 10: Fall 2025

 Editor’s Note

December 19th, 2025

It is with great pleasure that we present the tenth issue of Grey Matters. This semester’s issue is an incredible representation of hard work and effort from the students in our Temple community. In this article, you will find a breadth of articles accompanied by expressive artworks that encapsulate the talent and perseverance of our contributors.

I started my participation as an author in the Spring of 2024 during my first year of college. During my initial involvement, I was inspired by the collaborative nature and creativity from all of the members of the organization. As I took on the role of Editor-in-Chief, I am continuously impressed and motivated by the sheer diligence and artistry exhibited by our contributors.

Through their efforts, we are excited to present numerous articles with topics spanning from the effects of isolation on the brain to the relationship between brain disease and sports-related head injuries.

While browsing through the issue, we hope your curiosity is satisfied. If you have been curious about the importance of fruit flies in Parkinson’s research, I invite you to read Parkinson’s Petri Dish: What Fruit Flies Teach Us About Brain Disease. If you are interested in how loneliness and isolation can affect your brain, I recommend reading The Neuroscience of Loneliness: How Social Isolation Reshapes the Brain. I encourage you to check out Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): The Neuroscience Behind Hormone Sensitivity if you would like to learn more about the brain’s sensitivities to hormonal fluctuations.

With Grey Matter’s mission of making neuroscience research accessible to all, I strongly encourage you to read these articles even if you do not have a background in neuroscience or psychology.

Please enjoy the following articles and artwork. From all of us at Grey Matters TU, we thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Johanna Sabio
